Thinking about losing weight & getting fit?
What You Need to Know Before Getting Started
Weight loss can be achieved either by eating fewer calories or by burning more calories with physical activity, preferably both.
A healthy weight loss program consists of:
- A reasonable, realistic weight loss goal
- A reduced-calorie, nutritionally-balanced eating plan
- Regular movement plus planned physical activity including weights or resistance training
- A behaviour change plan to help you stay on track with your goals
At Blue Mountains Personal Training we want to help you with each of these components.
Keep in Mind
- Calories count, portions count and nutrition timing counts
- Sometimes it is not about eating less but making better choices
- Even a small amount of weight loss can lead to big health benefits
- We help you to develop good habits to last a lifetime
Getting Started
- If you’re new to exercise discuss weight loss with your doctor. If you have a lot of weight to lose, we’ll help you set a realistic short term goal, as well as looking at the big picture goals you may have. Remember that even a small amount of weight loss can lead to big health benefits.
- We can help you estimate your calorie needs and track your current food intake and physical activity level using the Blue Mountains Personal Training nutrition and training diary. Taking a good look at your current habits will help us determine what changes you might make as well as highlighting what you are already doing right.
- Keep in mind that you want to develop lifestyle habits that will help you maintain your weight in a healthy range. A short-term “diet” that you “go on” and then “go off” is not the answer to long-term weight management. We can help you see change and feel fitter in a short space of time but it’s not a quick fix, we help you develop healthy habits.
Staying On Track with Your Goals
Setting realistic goals and tracking your progress is key to your success. In fact, research has shown that those who keep track of their behaviours are more likely to take off weight and keep it off. A reasonable rate of weight loss is 0.5kg to 1kg per week, sometimes you may see a little more than this when you first get started. As we progress with your training things that once seemed challenging will get easier and we’ll progress you on to new training programs to help your fitness and health improve.
